Change to Size 5 Spalding Balls
Basketball Victoria has made the decision to implement the use of Size 5 basketballs for their competition structures commencing from January 2022.
Players will continue to use a Size 6 Basketball (under-14 boys/under-14 girls and older) as well as the Size 7 Basketball (under-16 boys and older) in Basketball Victoria competitions.
The recommendation paper provided by Basketball Victoria cites several overseas case studies that show a positive correlation in both performance and enjoyment with appropriately sized equipment including the International Journal of Sport Science and Coaching (2019). Adopting a size 5 basketball allows younger players and beginners to hone and perfect their skills at an early age.

These changes mean that from January 2022 we will be implementing the following for our junior domestic competitions:
SBA Boys Domestic Competitions
Under 9 Under 10 and Under 12 – Size 5 Basketballs
Under 14 – Size 6 Basketballs
Under 16 and Under 18 – Size 7 Basketballs
SBA Girls Domestic Competitions
Under 9 Under 10 and Under 12 – Size 5 Basketballs
Under 14 / Under 16 and Under 18 – Size 6 Basketballs
SBA BeeBall and Sabre Cubs Programs (Boys and Girls) – Size 5 Basketballs
VJBL- Sabres
U 12 Boys and Girls- Size 5 Basketballs

Purchase by 29th October and collection will be from the Stadium on Tuesday 9th November or you can select the delivery option for a fee of $13.75.
If you miss this window we will then take orders from 30th October – 26th November and collection will be available from the stadium on Tuesday 7th December or select the delivery option..
