The SBA is pleased to announce our senior coaching appointments for 2021.

  • NBL1 Men – Nathan Cooper Brown
  • NBL1 Women – Jacqui O’Neill
  • VYC Men – Andy Lim
  • VYC Women – Michael Burke
  • U21 Men – Mark Williamson
  • U21 Women – George Romancz

Returning from the 2019 season, Nathan Cooper Brown continues with the Sabres NBL1 Men. A former club junior, Cooper-Brown is also involved with Basketball Victoria as their High Performance for Vic Country. “I’m thrilled to be back at the Sabres for the 2021 season. It’s always special when you get to come back to your home club, but being able to attack a new set of challenges, and rectify some areas from the 2019 season means this one is a little more special. We look forward to building on an exciting style of play, giving opportunities to our talented Sabres juniors, and competing at a level that will get our entire community back in the Sabredome in April.”

Jacqui O’Neill is being promoted from the VYC Women to the NBL1 Head Coaching role for 2021. Jacqui has a track record of coaching juniors and is currently the Head Coach of  the Under 16 Victoria Metro Women. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to be coaching in the NBL1 competition with the Sabres. I am honoured to be working with the  women as many of them step into the NBL1 competition for the first time. 2020 has been a challenging year for all but I know that we are all ready to get back onto the court in 2021.”

Our NBL1 Head Coaches will be fully supported by our VYC Head Coaches Andy Lim (VYC Men) and Michael Burke (VYC Women). Andy Lim continues in 2021 after being appointed for the 2020 season that wasn’t while Burke returns to the SBA after a period away from coaching. An SBA Life Member, Burke has a proven track record of developing juniors and promoting them through the SBA player pathway. They will be further underpinned with support from our Under 21 head coaches George Romancz (21 Women) and Mark Williamson (21 Men).

The NBL1 season is scheduled to being April 17th, with more information about the Victorian Youth Championship season to follow. Please stay tuned to our website and social media channels for home game fixtures and player signings as 2021 begins.
